Hoppy 'strahlia day, mate

Disclaimer: pay no attention to posting times. I write posts and then upload them when I can find solid wifi.

All of Sydney is dressed in those plastic rain ponchos to make the most of their national holiday.  It's been only half a day and I feel like I've soaked in a lot of the festivities.

But first off, breakfast. Joe Blacks caught my eye when I was googling good Sydney restaurants, especially for brekkie. Bonus that it's next to my hotel. My high expectations were met, and I got to enjoy a dose of Sydney news at the same time.

This is the Stormin' Norman. Delish!

I donned my running gear and headed to the Royal Botanic Gardens. Beautiful spot and right along the harbour - perfect for running. I followed a couple other runners who looked like they knew where to go.
Stopping to take pictures every two minutes didn't make for a great "run", but it got me to various viewpoints along the water.

I also ran into these guys!

And a whole ton of men in speedos. Everywhere. Some of whom probably shouldn't be donning a speedo. There was a 2k swim in the harbour and the finish point was at the Opera House.

The Sydney Bridge was calling my name. My directionally-challenged self had a hard time finding where a pedestrian actually gets on the bridge. I ended up seeing a different part of the harbour (that I think I'm supposed to see on a tour tomorrow) but eventually made my way from underneath...

To up top. The view is fantastic.

Loads of boats were lining up for the Australia Day ferry race. I'm not sure who won...

Sydney does street meat but they also do street corn!

I partook and made my way back to the CBD after watching the 21 gun salute and listening to the national anthem. I noticed everyone staring at something in the harbour, but I wasn't sure what. An Aussie beside me, wearing a green garbage bag with a hood, was confused too and asked another fellow what we are all supposed to be lookin' at.

"I've got no idea." He said this while taking pictures of presumably the thing he thought he was supposed to be remembering.

I leave with you some photos of my own from today. Planning to catch the fireworks tonight back at Darling Harbour.
